Moroccan Media Pioneer Khalil Hachimi Idrissi Dies at 67

The Director General of the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP), Khalil Hachimi Idrissi, died on Saturday morning in Rabat at the age of 67, after a long illness.

A graduate of the 3rd cycle of the Institute of Geography of the University of Paris I-Pantheon-Sorbonne, Khalil Hachimi Idrissi had very early on committed himself to the development of the media and worked in several radio stations in France in the early 1980s. He was editor-in-chief of the weekly "Maroc Hebdo International" for many years before founding, in the year 2000, "Aujourd’hui Le Maroc", a French-language general daily newspaper.

An active member of the press world, Khalil Hachimi Idrissi was elected president of the FMEJ (Moroccan Federation of Newspaper Publishers) in 2008 and chaired the jury of the National Press Prize in 2007. He also published several works, including the "Billets Bleus", chronicles on Morocco from 1994 to 2000.

In 2011, he was appointed Director General of MAP by King Mohammed VI. During his tenure, the Moroccan Press Agency became an important public information hub, thus confirming the impact and importance of Khalil Hachimi Idrissi in the Moroccan media world.

The funeral ceremony will take place this Sunday after the noon prayer at the Achouhada cemetery in Rabat.
