Moroccan Markets Well-Stocked as Ramadan Begins, Prices Hold Steady Despite Demand Uptick

The inter-ministerial commission responsible for monitoring supply, prices and quality and price control operations, meeting on Monday, April 27, 2020, stated that demand has seen a relative increase on the eve and during the first two days of Ramadan. However, it did not reach the usual levels of the same period last year.
The commission also noted that the markets are normally supplied with goods and products of all kinds, and that the supply largely covers the estimated needs for the coming months, indicates a press release from the Department of General Affairs and Governance of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Public Administration Reform.
The same trend of stability was recorded in the prices of goods and products compared to the previous week. On the other hand, significant decreases were recorded compared to the same period last year.
"For example, the prices of tomatoes and dry onions are 11% lower than the previous year, green onions are -36%, red meats -7% and live chicken -26%," the commission continued.
