Moroccan Man Sentenced to 2 Years for Insulting King and Hospital Staff in Viral Video

The author of the defamatory remarks against King Mohammed VI and the medical staff of the Saniat Rmel hospital in Tetouan was sentenced to two years in prison with a fine of 5,000 dirhams.
According to the website Al Oumk, the young man was prosecuted for disrespecting the symbols of the country, insulting public officials in the exercise of their duties and indecency.
The suspect had recorded a first video in a care room at the hospital, insulting the Sovereign and accusing the medical staff of negligence and dilettantism.
Trying to justify himself in a second video, the young man regrets his attitude and his obscene remarks, on the pretext that he was in an unstable state.
According to Article 179 of the Penal Code, "any person who attacks the person of the king or the heir apparent shall be punished by imprisonment of one to five years and a fine of 5,000 to 50,000 dirhams".
