Moroccan Man Sentenced to 12 Years for 2001 Murder in France

The criminal chamber of first instance in Tangier has sentenced a man to 12 years in prison for the murder of his friend, committed in France in 2001. The man, then in his twenties, had fled after the incident and was actively sought by the French authorities.
The crime took place during a drunken evening with two French friends, recalls Achkayen. A violent argument broke out between the victim, Imad, and the three men. The situation quickly escalated, and Imad was stabbed more than 70 times before being run over by a car. The attackers then fled, leaving behind a crime that shocked public opinion.
The investigation by the French authorities led to the arrest of one of the men involved as well as his brother. Their testimonies confirmed the participation of a third party in the murder. Convicted in absentia to 18 years in prison in France, he managed to evade justice for more than 20 years. He traveled to several countries before returning to Morocco, where he was finally arrested thanks to an international arrest warrant.
