Moroccan Man Reunites with Family after 18-Month Border Ordeal in Ceuta

Mohammed Kanjaa, a 24-year-old Moroccan blocked in Ceuta since the closure of the borders, has managed to reach Fnideq where his family lives, after several failed attempts.
Mohammed Kanjaa worked as a mason in Ceuta to support his family based in Fnideq when the borders were closed for health reasons. After staying for more than a year in Ceuta away from his family, Mohammed was desperately trying to return to see them. He tried to cross the border several times, but never succeeded, says Mohamed Ahmed Debdi, a cousin of Mohammed, to El Faro de Ceuta.
The family was worried to death when they no longer had news of him after he informed them on Wednesday that he had left the residence where he was living with other migrants in the Príncipe neighborhood, before learning on Thursday that he had managed to cross the border and reach Fnideq. "We don’t know how he did it. He called and said he had arrived and was at the hospital undergoing a Covid-19 test," said the cousin.
