Moroccan Man’s Rare Scrotal Condition Leads to Decade of Suffering

A Moroccan man lived a real nightmare for ten years, as his scrotum gradually swelled to the size of a beach ball, according to a medical report published in Urology Case Reports.
This huge mass, which hung down below his knees, completely hid his penis and made his daily life extremely difficult.
The man suffered from "massive scrotal elephantiasis", a rare condition outside certain regions of Africa and Asia. This pathology, also called scrotal lymphedema, is caused by an accumulation of fluid in the scrotum, causing extreme swelling. In the present case, the patient’s chronic lower urinary tract infection seems to be the cause of this lymphedema.
The consequences of this disease are dramatic, both physically and psychologically. The Moroccan suffered from constant pain, recurrent infections, difficulty walking and urinating, and considerable emotional distress.
The doctors found that the scrotum had an impressive diameter of 60 cm, with thickened and rough skin. The testicles were displaced and the penis completely hidden by this imposing mass.
An ultrasound confirmed the diagnosis of scrotal lymphedema, revealing dilated lymphatic channels and fluid accumulation in the scrotal sac.
