Moroccan Man Missing After Ferry Trip to Spain, Foreign Minister Confirms

Morocco is still searching for Marouan El Mokadem, a Moroccan who has been missing since May 24, 2024, after boarding a ferry bound for the port of Motril.
The Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, confirmed the disappearance of Marouan El Mokadem on a Spanish boat on May 24, specifying that his department has already transmitted the information to the Moroccan Consulate General in Almeria in order to initiate the necessary steps to find him.
The consulate has requested the help of competent Moroccan authorities to determine the exact circumstances of the disappearance. In collaboration with active Moroccan associations in the region, it has launched a search notice to try to find the Moroccan who has been missing for almost a year. Images of Marouane have been widely distributed for all useful purposes, as reported by La Razon.
The Moroccan Consulate General in Almeria has also contacted the youth center where Marouane lived before his disappearance. The establishment assured that they have not seen the Moroccan since his departure. On January 5, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a circular about this strange disappearance to all Moroccan consulates in Spain. To no avail.
Nasser Bourita further indicates that the Consulate General in Almeria received a letter on January 22, 2025, from the Guardia Civil informing them that they had been notified of a complaint filed on April 22, 2024, by the husband of the missing person’s aunt and that an investigation has been ongoing on this matter since then.
For now, the only certainty is that Marouane did not enter Spain through the border post at the port of Motril. It is established that the young man was arrested by border police at the port of Beni Ansar on April 20, 2024. This information was confirmed by his brother to the judicial police investigators in Oujda, who assures that he spoke on the phone with Marouane while he was on board the boat.
