Moroccan Man Jailed for Spreading False Coronavirus Claims on Social Media

A young man, originally from Tétouan, will have to serve a 2-month prison sentence, accompanied by a fine of 2,000 dirhams, for having disseminated false information about the proliferation of the Coronavirus in the city.
According to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security, an individual, through false allegations published on social networks, claimed that two people had succumbed to the Coronavirus.
Placed in custody, at the disposal of the investigation, the man appeared on Monday, March 9, before the court of first instance of Tétouan. The sentence has therefore been handed down.
The Ministry of the Interior had, in the past, warned the entire population against the dissemination of fake news about the Coronavirus, warning that legal action would be taken against offenders.
