Moroccan Man Arrested for Spreading False COVID-19 Claims, Targeting Jewish Citizen

The elements of the prefectural judicial police service of Casablanca, in coordination with the central service for the fight against crimes related to new technologies, proceeded on Tuesday, March 31, to the arrest of a 35-year-old businessman working in a private company. He had wrongly accused a Jew of being responsible for the spread of the coronavirus.
In a press release, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) indicates that the accused had disseminated posts and digital content on social networks, containing erroneous data on the spread of the pandemic of the new coronavirus in Morocco, claiming that the kingdom has thousands of cases.
The suspect falsely accused a Moroccan citizen of Jewish faith and a foreign national of Arab origin, of being directly responsible for the spread of the virus among a large number of people infected with covid-19, the DGSN specifies. The field research and technical expertise carried out by the national security services proved fruitful: the accused was identified and arrested.
Pending the determination of the circumstances as well as the ins and outs of the dissemination of these fallacious contents undermining the sense of security of citizens in general and causing harm to a certain number of Moroccans and foreigners, he was placed in custody.
