Moroccan Man’s Appeal Trial Begins for 2016 Girlfriend Murder in Nîmes

The appeal trial of a 28-year-old Moroccan man, accused of killing his girlfriend in their apartment in Nîmes on the night of November 19 to 20, 2016, opened on Monday, May 31, before the Ardèche Assize Court. He had been sentenced to 30 years in prison at first instance.
The hearing begins with Sadek’s personality investigation. At the stand, his sister Yosra, 19, a high school student at Alain Borne in Montélimar. She talks about her brother: a boy undermined in his childhood in Morocco by the absence of his father, reports France bleu. The latter is a Moroccan residing in France who joins the kingdom twice a year. Each time, the separation was heartbreaking for Sadek, his sister explains. One day, he tried to commit suicide because he thought his father was mortally wounded.
For Yosra, his difficult childhood cannot justify his act. She condemned her brother’s act. Continuing, she describes a helpful boy ready to help others, especially the elderly. In turn, the convict’s friends describe a cheerful, attentive, generous boy. He can’t believe he killed his girlfriend.
The events took place in Nîmes in the couple’s apartment on the night of November 19 to 20, 2016. He had moved in a few days earlier. A dispute over Ninon’s cell phone. She had refused to give it back to her companion. Described as a jealous man, Sadek was convinced that his partner was cheating on him. He kills Ninon. When they arrive, the firefighters find the victim’s body curled up in a fetal position.
During the hearing, Sadek, who had admitted the facts, says he never wanted to kill Ninon. "I appealed because I feel I wasn’t heard. I was violent. She didn’t deserve that and I’m solely responsible." But according to the very didactic psychiatrist’s explanations, Sadek has no mental illness and knew what he was doing when he laid hands on his partner. The specialist describes a young man with a fragile character.
