Moroccan "Little Switzerland" Ifrane Sees Surge in Visitors as Lockdown Eases

The city of Ifrane is once again stormed by picnickers and hikers who come to get lost in the beauty of the landscapes, after facing the health confinement for long weeks.
Also called the little Switzerland, the city of Ifrane is one of the most popular destinations for Moroccans. With the confinement lifted, it is now regaining its old habits, with visitors aware of the chance they are given to admire the beauty of the nature that stretches as far as the eye can see.
The province is renowned for "its Dayas, lakes and springs, as well as the preponderance of groundwater". Not to mention "the richness of the terrestrial and aquatic fauna", and "the diversity of landscapes and natural sites" of incomparable beauty.
Ifrane is located "in the heart of the Middle Atlas mountains at an altitude of 1,650m". Ecological capital of Morocco, it is "the 2nd cleanest city in the world", according to an international ranking. Even if the hikers and picnickers are happy to be able to contemplate the landscape and the other natural gifts that the city can offer them, they are aware that "deconfinement should not mean relaxation and non-compliance with health instructions", reports the MAP.
Latifa came from Meknes to Ain Vittel, a natural and tourist site known for the splendor of its waterfalls and forests. For her, this outing to Ain Vittel has "a taste of freedom". "We came to get some fresh air after this confinement period. We missed the forest and nature so much these last few months," she rejoiced.
Moroccans can now enjoy the reopening of public outdoor spaces, as well as the resumption of activities such as walking and cycling, following the measures announced by the joint communiqué of the Ministries of the Interior, Health, Industry, Trade, Green and Digital Economy.
