Moroccan LGBT Activist Fights for Minority Rights in Wales

Abderrahim El Habachi, a 28-year-old Moroccan who had fled Morocco fearing persecution for his sexual orientation, is now advocating for LGBT and BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) rights in Wales, where he settled in 2017.
A playwright, actor and belly dancer, Abderrahim uses his art as a means of expression to defend the cause of the LGBT and BAME communities. He advocates in particular for safe housing for LGBT asylum seekers in the UK. According to him, these issues can be discussed during the celebration of Black History Month. He also proposes to reflect on the past. "These issues need to be addressed 24/7, every day, every month because Black people don’t only exist for one month, LGBT people don’t only exist for one month," the young Moroccan told ITV News.
Recently, he presented a one-man show titled The Love Thief, inspired by the myth of Prometheus, at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff. "I try to take up as much space as possible and be as visible as possible. What I do with my art as a playwright, actor and belly dancer - through my art, I try to be more and more visible and more and more loud."
