Moroccan Lawmakers Donate Monthly Salaries to Earthquake Relief Fund

The deputies and parliamentary councilors of the two chambers of the Moroccan parliament have decided to each donate one month’s allowance to the Special Fund dedicated to the reconstruction of the areas affected by the deadly earthquake of Friday, September 8.
Meeting on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Rachid Talbi Alami and Enaam Mayara, the bureaus of the two Chambers decided that all 395 deputies of the House of Representatives and the 120 parliamentarians of the House of Councilors will each donate one month of their allowances, or 36,000 dirhams, to the Earthquake Special Fund.
In total, an amount of around 19 million dirhams should be mobilized by the parliamentarians of the two chambers. The donations of the officials of the two institutions should also be collected and added to this amount, it is announced.
During the meeting, the heads of the two chambers affirmed that they remain "mobilized" to closely monitor the evolution of the situation. They did not fail to renew their solidarity with the victims and to salute the directives of King Mohammed VI aimed at relieving the victims and setting up a rehabilitation and reconstruction plan for the areas affected by the earthquake.
