Moroccan Lawmaker’s Trial Postponed in Alleged Bribery Case

The trial of Abderrahim El Kamil, president of the Ouahate Sidi Brahim commune, and PAM councilor in the second Chamber of Parliament, has been postponed to March 4. This was decided by the Criminal Chamber at the Marrakech Court of Appeal in charge of financial crimes.
It is following a request from the defense of the accused who needs more time to prepare his pleadings, that the trial has been postponed to March 4, reports Barlamane. This postponement will allow the plaintiff to attend the next hearing.
A Moroccan businessman residing abroad has accused deputy Abderrahim El Kamil of blackmail. He allegedly asked him for a bribe of 110,000 dirhams in exchange for an administrative service.
On the orders of the public prosecutor’s office, elements of the National Brigade of the Judicial Police opened an investigation, after the MRE filed a complaint against the deputy. A plan concocted with the collaboration of the businessman allowed the BNPJ elements to arrest the commune president, caught in the act of corruption.
