Moroccan Lawmaker Pushes to Rename Urban Commune, Citing Outdated Village Label

The name of "Kariat Ba Mohamed", a commune near Taliouine, does not seem to please a deputy from the Party of Justice and Development. He made a point of making it known officially to the Minister of the Interior.
In a letter addressed to Abdelouadi Laftit, the PJD member Ali Lasri requested the modification of the name of the commune, which has had the status of an urban commune for about twenty years.
For the deputy, there would be a confusion between the name of the commune and its actual status. The title of "Kariat" (which means village in Arabic) is misleading, he said, knowing that the commune is no longer a village.
A heavy historical legacy that would no longer have its place, the name of the small town, adds the Councilor, needs to be updated and above all modernized. He proposed to remove "Kariat" and keep only the title "Ba Mhamed".
