Moroccan Lawmaker Proposes Economic Relief Plan Amid Coronavirus Crisis

Deputy Omar Balafrej is concerned about the management of the fund set up to fight the effects of coronavirus in Morocco. On Wednesday, he presented a list of proposals to the government.
The proposals of the FGD deputy are aimed at addressing the negative effects of the Corona virus pandemic on the national economy in the coming weeks and months. He took advantage of the presentation of the details of the fund, made by the Minister of Finance, before the House of Representatives, to list a few points. Omar Balafrej stated that "priority should be given to employees, while urging operators to pay their full salary".
He also called on the government to "guarantee a minimum standard of living for about a million citizens, through fees that allow them to live in times of crisis". He proposed that "each receive 1,000 DH in aid, for a total of one billion DH". Omar Balafrej added that the State should follow the example of many Western countries "by preserving the jobs of workers".
Taking into account the shortage of workers in companies and factories, due to the crisis, the MP calls on the government to consider "a revision of the tax policy, with an exceptional tax on fuel and wealth".
Finally, the elected member of the Left Federation believes that, for their significant role since the beginning of this health crisis in Morocco, "the government must pay particular attention to the families of the police, the Auxiliary Forces and the Civil Protection".
