Moroccan Lawmaker Jailed in Corruption Probe After 400,000 Dirham Seizure

The investigating judge at the Casablanca Court of Appeal ordered the provisional detention of Saïd Zaïdi, member of the political bureau of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) and deputy of the Benslimane constituency, who was arrested on October 5 in flagrante delicto of corruption.
Saïd Zaïdi is in hot water. Pending the completion of the in-depth investigation sessions, the investigating judge at the Casablanca Court of Appeal ordered his placement in pre-trial detention, reports Alyaoum24. Deputy of the Benslimane constituency, he had been arrested in flagrante delicto of corruption after an entrepreneur filed a complaint for blackmail against him. At the time of his arrest, a sum of 400,000 DH had been found in the pockets of the PPS elected official.
His party is waiting for the end of the investigation conducted by the justice system to make a decision concerning him. Questioned about a possible freezing of his membership, Karim Taj, member of the political bureau of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) believes that "this discussion is premature".
