Moroccan Lawmaker Denies Seeking Help to Free Sister Detained for Lockdown Violation

Stepping up in the wake of rumors about the Prime Minister’s alleged intervention to release her sister, PJD deputy Amina Maelainine denied any contact with the current Prime Minister, Saâd-Eddine El Otmani or his predecessor, Abdelilah Benkirane, to request an intervention to release her sister.
Questioned in Tiznit this week for "violating the confinement measures", the deputy Amina Maelainine’s sister is now free to move around.
On her Facebook page, the parliamentarian indicated that the defendant, after the custody procedures, was brought before the public prosecutor. Released after paying the fine, she is being prosecuted on provisional release according to the legal procedure.
Continuing her explanations, the deputy said she had not contacted any official authority. She also claimed that neither Saâd-Eddine El Otmani nor Abdelilah Benkirane had been approached by her. According to her, the two personalities were only informed of the incident through the press.
"No one has tried to interfere or influence the independence of the judiciary," she assured.
