Moroccan King Orders Security Overhaul After Palace Guard Incident

14 bodyguards returned to the National Police Institute in Kenitra on Wednesday, September 25, for a refresher course. Among them are commissioners, officers and inspectors in charge of the royal convoy’s protection.
According to the daily Assabah, this measure was taken following a serious fault committed by the agents during their guard duty at the Royal Palace of Skhirat. A new strategy for the distribution and allocation of bodyguards has been adopted by the High Command, in order to avoid the repetition of the same errors.
Strict security instructions have been given for more vigilance and attention during the guards of the King’s palaces and residences, and for a better responsiveness of the bodyguards in the face of any incident.
The newspaper adds that a new appointment at the head of the Directorate of Security of the Royal Palaces is being studied, especially since this position has remained vacant for more than a year, after the departure of Hassan Cherrat.
The President of the Royal Karate Federation, Mohamed Mouktabal, was provisionally appointed to head the Directorate, but legal entanglements have delayed his confirmation, which should await the end of his trial, the newspaper reports.
