Moroccan Justice Minister: Homosexuality Cannot Be Legalized in Muslim Nation

The Minister of Justice and Secretary General of the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM), Abdellatif Ouahbi, assured that homosexuality cannot be "legalized" in a "Muslim country" like Morocco, despite the manipulations of Islamist currents on this issue.

"No one can legalize homosexuality in Morocco. We remain a Muslim country, but the Islamist currents want to make this issue a cause around which they intend to unite and form a political force. But I will never allow the political instrumentalization of the issue of reforming the Penal Code," Ouahbi clarified in an interview with Al3omk.

The Minister of Justice also recalled that the reform of the Penal Code is not a personal initiative, but stems from the government and enjoys the support of the governing majority. Accused of wanting to "legalize debauchery and corrupt society" through the reform of the Penal Code, Ouahbi said he has never announced, for example, the abolition of judicial prosecution for the offense of adultery.

Ouahbi also stressed that he will keep his freedom of speech until his death. "They will never manage to silence me. Even in my grave, I will continue to express myself," he affirmed. The Secretary General of the PAM also revealed a "flaw" of Abdelilah Benkirane, the Secretary General of the Party of Justice and Development (PJD). "He has a flaw: when he sees he has an interest in something, he forgets he has obligations to others," he said.
