Moroccan Judiciary Enforces Dress Code for Magistrates in Courtrooms

Moroccan magistrates must take care of their appearance, wearing proper official attire. A reminder to order has been made in this sense by the president of the public prosecutor’s office, El Hassan Daki.
The way some judges present themselves in court would not respect the ethical principles according to the Attorney General of the King at the Court of Cassation, who made it known through a note addressed to the prosecutors, reports Assabah.
In this circular, the official asked the judges to ensure they wear proper attire in their workplace. According to him, the dress code is a reflection of the prestigious social status of the judges and it is regrettable that some prosecutors do not take care of their appearance when they are on duty in the courts.
El Hassan Daki "urged the heads of the public prosecutor’s offices to encourage the magistrates to respect the ethical principles by taking care of their appearance and wearing a proper official attire that takes into account the prestige of justice and the sacredness of the missions entrusted to them".
Reacting to this note, the president of the Judges’ Club, Abderrazak El Jebbari, wrote on Facebook that "the sacredness of justice and the prestige of judges are only mentioned on occasions when duties must be imposed on them. But when they claim the rights related to these statuses, this respectability disappears as if by magic."
