Moroccan Journalists Expelled from Arab League Summit in Algeria, Union Condemns Action

The General Union of Arab Journalists condemned on Monday, October 31, 2022, the treatment reserved for Moroccan journalists who went to cover the Arab League summit, scheduled from November 1 to 2 in Algiers. This reaction follows a correspondence from the National Syndicate of the Moroccan Press (SNPM).
Authorized to cover the activities of the Arab League summit, Al Aoula journalists were expelled from Algiers where this regional meeting is to be held. In a statement published on Monday, the General Union of Arab Journalists condemned this treatment that was reserved for them. "It is essential to respect journalists and allow them to freely carry out their mission, in accordance with international laws and customs," the union explains.
A few hours earlier, the National Syndicate of the Moroccan Press (SNPM) issued a statement to condemn the "sequestration and expulsion" of these journalists. It also stated that these journalists in question work for the National Broadcast and Television Company (SNRT), the main player in the Moroccan public audiovisual sector. They were subjected, upon their arrival at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers, to deliberate provocations before being sequestered for nearly six hours and questioned by the security and intelligence services of Algeria, the Syndicate reported.
