Moroccan Journalists Demand Action Against Defamation in Media Ethics Dispute

Faced with attacks by some colleagues against "critical voices", including journalist Omar Radi, at the heart of a double espionage case, a group of 110 professional journalists has mobilized. They have called on the government to now sanction those who excel in defamation.
In a manifesto addressed to the Ministry of Communication, this group of media professionals has notably called on the National Press Council to take "disciplinary sanctions" against those who violate the code of ethics, reports Le Monde.
This manifesto also revealed the recent attacks suffered by the journalist and human rights activist, Omar Radi. According to the same document, the journalist was heard five times by the judicial police, without formal indictment for the moment, and was to report to a new summons on Friday.
While the first, Omar Radi, is the subject of a judicial investigation for "receiving foreign funding from intelligence agencies", opened at the end of June, the second media figure, Soulaimane Raissouni, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Akhbar al-Yaoum, is in pre-trial detention since the end of May, after an accusation of sexual assault.
According to the same source, the two men have been the subject of several virulent articles in media known for their proximity to power and for their very aggressive tone.
