Moroccan Journalist Omar Radi’s Trial Postponed, Faces Charges Over Tweet

After the provisional release on December 31 of journalist Omar Radi, a brief hearing was held on Thursday at the Court of First Instance in Casablanca. During this hearing, the judge ordered a postponement of the trial to allow the defendant to properly prepare his defense.
Omar Radi spent a few days in the Oukacha prison before obtaining provisional release on Tuesday, December 31. Journalist and human rights activist, he is being prosecuted for "contempt of a magistrate" following a tweet published in April 2019, in which he had criticized Judge Lahcen Tolfi. An offense for which he faces up to one year in prison and a 5,000 dirham fine, reports Telquel.
This Thursday again, the support committee for Omar Radi held a sit-in in front of the Ain Sebaâ courthouse, still with the aim of demanding the dropping of the charges against the journalist, but also "the release of all political prisoners", such as Nasser Zefzafi, Abdelali Bahmade alias Bouda Ghassan, the same source specifies.
