Moroccan Journalist Omar Radi Given Suspended Sentence for Tweet Criticizing Court

Arrested at the end of December for "contempt of a magistrate", the Moroccan journalist Omar Radi has just been sentenced to a suspended prison sentence by the Criminal Court of Ain Sebaa in Casablanca.
This Tuesday, March 17, the verdict was handed down for the one who had denounced on Twitter the heavy sentences of the detainees of the Hirak of the Rif. The defendant was sentenced to 4 months in prison with a suspended sentence, accompanied by a fine of 500 dirhams.
In a statement to AFP, Omar Radi said: "I expected the proceedings to be dismissed. This trial has no reason to be, it is an attack on my freedom of expression."
Since the courts in Morocco have been closed since Monday, as part of the preventive measures put in place to curb the Coronavirus epidemic, the journalist was informed of the verdict through his lawyer.
