Moroccan Journalist Omar Radi’s Appeal Trial Begins Amid Espionage and Rape Charges

The journalist Omar Radi, sentenced to six years in prison, will again appear before the judge this Thursday, as part of his appeal trial.
Accused of "espionage" and "rape," the journalist hopes for an acquittal in this case that led him to the Oukacha prison in Casablanca.
According to statements by his father Driss Radi, cited by the newspaper La Croix, "Omar Radi is doing as well as possible." To recall, the journalist had started a hunger strike in April to protest his incarceration, which he had to stop after 22 days as, suffering from Crohn’s disease, his health had then seriously deteriorated. He has since been following a heavy treatment.
Driss Radi also denounced the detention conditions of his son, who would be treated like a "political prisoner." "No one knows what may happen during this appeal trial, it is not justice but the ’services’ that decide," he said.
In addition, the appeal trial of Soulaimane Raissouni scheduled for November 3 has been postponed to November 10. That of the Franco-Moroccan Maati Monjib, human rights defender and founder of the Moroccan Association for Investigative Journalism (AMJI), released on provisional release in March, prosecuted for "fraud" and "undermining state security" has been postponed to December 2, the same source points out.
