Moroccan Journalist Accuses French Collector of Racist Remarks, Sparking Investigation
Wednesday 26 June 2024, by
The 7th arrondissement police station is conducting an investigation opened by the Paris Prosecutor’s Office following a complaint filed by a Moroccan journalist against the French collector Pierre-Jean Chalençon accused of racism.
It all started with a conversation about politics and the legislative elections on the evening of Saturday, June 22 during a dinner at the home of common friends, who live in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. "Why couldn’t the Moroccans integrate in France?" Pierre-Jean Chalençon repeatedly asked a journalist born in Morocco, according to a police source. The journalist would have reminded him that Jean-Marie Le Pen, former president of the National Front of which he is close, is anti-Semitic. Enough to annoy the famous collector. The insults pour in. "I fuck you... The Arabs will always be Arabs, go back home you dirty bitch," Chalençon would have thrown at her.
The journalist was far from imagining such an attitude from the collector. She would have taken out her phone to film the scene. In the process, "the administrator of the Cercle France Napoléon seized it and threw it to the ground," reports 20 Minutes, adding that "the other guests had to intervene to separate them."
On Sunday, the Moroccan journalist filed a complaint against Chalençon. Currently, the 7th arrondissement police station is conducting an investigation opened by the Paris Prosecutor’s Office to shed light on this case.
