Moroccan Job Seekers Scammed in UAE Immigration Fraud Scheme

About a hundred young Moroccans have been victims of fraud, by subscribing to an immigration program to the United Arab Emirates. Three individuals extorted large sums of money from them after promising them employment contracts.
According to the daily Assabah, the three suspects collected down payments on migration fees ranging from 20,000 to 50,000 dirhams. In return, the many victims were to receive employment contracts in the Emirates in the fields of hospitality, catering, construction and hairdressing.
The initial elements of the investigation revealed that the accused, who were handing out guarantee checks to the candidates, were posing as officials of a company specializing in the recruitment of skilled labor wishing to work in the United Arab Emirates.
The victims were surprised to find that the positions covered by the employment contracts offered were not vacant. Requests made to the UAE Consulate in Rabat were not more conclusive.
Several complaints were then filed by the victims with the Attorney General for fraud, embezzlement and issuing bad checks.
While the three suspects were placed in pre-trial detention in the local prison in Salé, the lawyer for the civil party proposed to compensate the victims in exchange for the withdrawal of the complaint.
