Moroccan ISIS Fighter Sentenced to 12 Years for Terrorism in Syria

A Moroccan was sentenced, on Thursday, to 12 years in prison by the criminal chamber in charge of terrorism cases in Salé. The defendant had spent more than seven years in Syria, and is considered one of the most formidable Moroccan fighters who have served in the ranks of Daesh.
In this case, the public prosecutor’s office had initially requested 20 years in prison against this 37-year-old terrorist, married and father of two children, originally from the Souika district in Tangier, reports the daily Al Akhbar.
After deliberation, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Court, on several counts including the formation of a criminal gang, the carrying and use of firearms and the management of funds for the purpose of committing terrorist acts.
The terrorist career of the Moroccan jihadist in question testifies to his dangerousness. Indeed, he has already spent nearly seven years in Syria where he learned to handle automatic weapons, including the Kalashnikov, and took part in bloody battles. He frequented the Moroccan faction called "Mouvement de Cham Islam", then under the command of a Moroccan, a former Guantanamo prisoner.
Furthermore, specifies the same source, the accused, during his Syrian stay, was a member of the Free Syrian Army, opposed to the Syrian regime, as well as other militias associated with Daesh. He took refuge in Turkey, the place of his arrest, and was imprisoned for four months before being handed over to the Moroccan justice system in 2019.
