Moroccan Interior Minister Warns Utilities Over Inflated Bills Amid Deconfinement

Anger is brewing in Moroccan households over the latest water and electricity bills distributed by the companies that manage them on a delegated basis. Fearing demonstrations, the Minister of the Interior has reminded these companies to order.
The fanciful bills issued by these companies must be corrected. They were established not on the basis of meter readings but rather on estimates specific to these delegated companies.
In this regard, a severe warning has been addressed to them by the Minister of the Interior. This reminder to order from Abdelouafi Laftit comes out of fear of social unrest as the Kingdom embarks on a gradual deconfinement.
To recall, the distribution of water and electricity in Morocco is provided by delegated management companies. These are Lydec in the Casablanca region, Rédal in the Rabat region and Amendis in several cities in the North. As for ONEE, a public institution, it provides the service in other cities and especially in rural areas.
