Moroccan Inmate Escapes German Prison, Evades Capture in Frankfurt

A Moroccan national escaped from the Franckfort-Preungesheim IV prison on Thursday, August 1, 2019, without the German police being able to find him so far.
An unusual event surprised the authorities of the Franckfort-Preungesheim IV prison, around 1 p.m. Taking advantage of a release permit, this 39-year-old Moroccan prisoner climbed the 5.50 meter fence, reinforced by two rolls of barbed wire, reports the German daily Frankfurter allgemeine zeitung (FAZ).
The police alerted motorists against hitchhikers in the region. This precaution was taken in case the escapee requested their services to be driven away from the scene. To carry out this search, a helicopter was mobilized to fly over the region.
According to the German police alerts, the Moroccan national is a man of heavy build, wearing a red shirt and gray pants. He injured his head while escaping.
The detainee was about to serve his sentence in this Franckfort prison. Convicted of minor theft offenses, without violence or drug trafficking, the prisoner was not known for his violence or as a notorious offender.
The same media reports that the penitentiary institution only has a security level 2 and does not have a highly secure wing to accommodate prisoners about to be released.
For now, the police have not yet been able to locate the fugitive.
