Moroccan Imam Arrested for Leading Unauthorized Prayer Gathering Amid COVID Restrictions

The imam of a mosque in Errachidia went against the law by leading a communal prayer in an unauthorized small room. The man and the group of worshippers were arrested last week.
Also a Friday preacher at the local mosque, he decided to disregard the preventive measures, by gathering worshippers in a clandestinely arranged prayer room.
The information, notes Akhbarona, quickly reached the local delegation of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, which decided to permanently suspend the imam from his duties.
Last July, places of worship were partially reopened to worshippers. The authorities accompanied the decision with strict preventive measures, including the wearing of masks, distancing and the prohibition of Friday prayers.
