Moroccan Housing Aid Program Sees Strong Uptake from Expatriates

Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) have greatly contributed to the success of the direct housing assistance program. The number of beneficiaries attests to this.
The number of beneficiaries of the housing support program is 30,848. This emerges from the intervention of the Secretary of State for Housing, Adib Benbrahim, at the session of oral questions in the House of Representatives. 26% of the program’s beneficiaries are Moroccans residing abroad (MREs), 46% are women, and 35% belong to the youth category (under 35 years old), he specified.
63% of all beneficiaries received support of 70,000 dirhams, while 37% benefited from aid of 100,000 dirhams, Benbrahim also specified, stressing that the average number of rooms in the acquired housing is three. In total, 70% of these homes have an area between 60 and 100 square meters.
The official also mentioned the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing and City Policy to encourage and facilitate access to housing for a large number of citizens. Among these actions, there is the signing of a convention with the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion, through its subsidiary dedicated to social security, with a view to creating a digital platform for the management of direct housing support requests.
Another convention has also been signed with the General Directorate of Taxes, the General Treasury of the Kingdom and the National Land Registry Agency to simplify and accelerate the procedures for applicants for support, by dematerializing the procedures, controlling the deadlines and improving the performance of the program.
A convention has also been signed with the National Council of the Order of Notaries to ensure the follow-up of citizens’ files throughout the direct housing subsidy process, with a ceiling on notary fees of 2,500 dirhams for buyers of a home whose price is less than or equal to 300,000 dirhams, taxes included.
