Moroccan Hotels See Surge in Bookings as Eid Al-Adha Traditions Shift

Following King Mohammed VI’s call not to sacrifice sheep during Eid Al-Adha, many Moroccans rushed to hotels located in the main tourist cities, Marrakech and Agadir, to spend some good time there.

Traveling and booking hotels to enjoy their swimming pools during the Eid Al-Adha holidays. This is the alternative found by many Moroccans after the cancellation of the celebration of the most important Muslim holiday. "Even if some families previously performed the sacrifice in hotels, with the latter taking care of all procedures, from slaughter to the preparation of mechoui, this year they chose to enjoy the swimming pools and other facilities in response to the royal decision to cancel the practice of sacrifice," sources report to Hespress.

In the vicinity of the cities of Marrakech and Agadir, spaces reserved for families, such as inns, are also fully booked, particularly due to the rise in temperatures in recent days. According to some tourism professionals, most of these spaces are full, with some large families having booked rooms to spend Eid there and enjoy mechoui, after the cancellation of the sacrifice.

Hotel attendance during Eid al-Adha "has become a tradition for years, with Moroccans going to hotels and clubs that allow them to celebrate Eid, thanks to the involvement of hotel industry professionals and their efforts to meet the needs of these families who wish to celebrate this occasion. [...] Although the practice of sacrifice is not possible this year, many families who were used to doing it are now turning to hotels," confirms Zoubir Bouhout, tourism sector expert.

He will add: "there is an increasing influx towards hotel establishments, especially in Marrakech, which offers varied offers for adults and children, in addition to having nearby natural landscapes that can be visited."
