Moroccan Hirak Activist Ends 46-Day Hunger Strike in Tangier Prison

Rabie Al Ablaq has decided to end his latest hunger strike, after more than 46 days of food deprivation. Through a letter dated October 31, the Hirak du Rif detainee informed the administration of the Tangier prison of his interruption.

His relatives are pleased with the detainee’s decision to give up this strike. The NGOs committed to the cause of the Hirak detainees had in the meantime called to "save Rabie’s life".

According to Hespress, Rabie Al Ablaq would have significantly lost weight, due to his successive strikes.

This decision by the detainee was indeed made after the visit paid to him in prison by his mother. Like any good mother, she must have weighed in on this choice of the Hirak prisoner, who had most expressed his discontent through this form of protest.

On his Facebook page, this news was confirmed by his brother, Abdellatif Lablak. He reports that his elder brother had "called to thank all his supporters, especially the Moroccan Association for Human Rights, the Democratic Coalition for the Rif, as well as all the free men and women in Morocco and abroad".

However, Abdellatif Al Ablaq expresses his uncertainty about the lifting of the strike by his elder brother, who according to his words, "would have received only empty and illusory promises".

According to Abdellatif Lablak, his elder brother could resume this strike in another way by opting, this time, for a silent strike with all its consequences.
