Moroccan Hirak Activist Begins Hunger Strike in Protest of Continued Detention

Due to the continuation of his detention, which he considers illegal in prison, Karim Amghar (sentenced to 10 years in prison), a Hirak detainee, has been on a hunger strike since August 23, 2019. This news was confirmed by the "Support and Solidarity Committee with the Hirak detainees of the Rif in Tanger 2 prison".
According to the Support Committee, Karim Amghar had "refused to inform the prison administration, not even his wife, of his decision to go on a hunger strike, as an expression of his sense of injustice and contempt due to his continued detention," reports hespress.com.
On this occasion, the Committee, which is used to supporting these Hirak detainees of the Rif in Tanger 2 prison, took stock of the difficulties encountered by the families of the Hirak detainees of the Rif serving their sentences in the city of the Strait. Based on these problems, the authors of the document denounced the cowardice of the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH).
According to them, the CNDH "did not keep its promise to provide buses to transport the families of the detainees to the Tanger 2 prison." They add that "the suffering of the families of the Hirak detainees of the Rif in Tanger prison 2 is repeated at each scheduled visit on Thursdays."
