Moroccan highways: delays and dysfunctions are worrying

The delay observed in the realization of certain highway projects is worrying the Moroccan parliament, which has questioned the chief executive of the National Highways Company to get explanations on this situation.
Summoned on Tuesday by the Infrastructure, Energy, Mines and Environment Commission in the House of Representatives and the members of the ad hoc parliamentary inquiry commission on this issue, Anouar Benazzouz, the CEO of the National Highways Company of Morocco, provided elements of response to the deputies’ concerns about the delays in the realization of certain highways as well as certain "dysfunctions" within his structure.
The members of the commission wanted to know how the National Highways Company is preparing "to host the finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup", what arrangements it is making to ensure "safety and fluidity" on the roads, and the reasons for the delays of certain construction sites opened in this context. The deputies also raised issues related to "non-payment of certain companies and companies", "services provided to users, rates and all administrative and legal aspects of the company".
The members of the commission noted that companies belonging to members of the Infrastructure, Energy, Mines and Environment Commission in the House of Representatives have obtained contracts from the Company. "How will the responsibility of the Director of the Highways Company be assessed by some who have concluded contracts worth billions in the name of their companies, which are the subject of many criticisms?" asked another deputy.
