Moroccan High Rabbi Urges Global Jewish Community to Follow COVID-19 Measures

The High Rabbinical Court of the Kingdom of Morocco has called on the global Jewish community to respect the rules and preventive measures taken by each of the countries in which it is located to curb the spread of the coronavirus. This call follows the contamination of about forty Jews after participating in a religious celebration.
Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, President of the High Rabbinical Court, in a statement, called on the Jewish community to "show wisdom by submitting to the national decisions taken in the face of this global pandemic." While inviting not to succumb to psychosis, the Rabbi asks to "show civic-mindedness and remain vigilant during these periods of social distancing and confinement." He believes it is "important to be benevolent towards others, but without infringing on the confinement rules established for the safety of all," according to the MAP.
He congratulated the efforts made by the authorities to try to contain this pandemic. "The Kingdom of Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, is the subject of my prayers. We stand by His Majesty and pray to God with strength, to accompany him in this trial with serenity," he specified, before expressing his full support to the members of the Moroccan Jewish community who tested positive for covid-19.
