Moroccan Healthcare Workers Face High COVID-19 Toll: 1,500 Infected, 20 Dead

The Moroccan healthcare staff, the first soldiers on the front line since the first cases of the coronavirus were recorded, are saving lives at the cost of their own. Since last March, nearly 1500 members of the medical staff have been infected, and about twenty of them have died.
Doctors, nurses and nursing staff have been exposed to the coronavirus for more than six months, reports Al Ahdath Al Magrhibia. Most of them were infected by the deadly virus due to the glaring lack of medical equipment.
According to the same daily, one of these soldiers, convinced that he was going to die, recently posted a video that went viral on social networks. In this video, he left a moving farewell message to his loved ones and colleagues, also perceived as an awareness message in which he reminds the duty of every doctor in the name of the Hippocratic Oath: to save lives or perish.
The statistics presented by the corporation of men in white coats reveal that nearly 825 healthcare workers were infected with the coronavirus, between last March and September 10, 2020. Its members justify the severe shortage affecting the sector by this widespread contamination. For the Minister of Health, Morocco is facing a deficit of some 32,387 doctors, and between 64,774 and 97,161 nurses and health technicians.
Faced with this distressing picture, the authorities are being called upon to act quickly. When a doctor dies during a pandemic, it is several lives that may lack being saved, the same source specifies.
