Moroccan MP Hamid Chabat Sets Absenteeism Record, Sparks Controversy

With the exception of the opening session, presided over by King Mohammed VI in October last year, Hamid Chabat has become a master of absenteeism. He has already missed 13 parliamentary sessions this year.
The latest issue of the official bulletin of the Moroccan Parliament has just published the absences of deputies during the current legislative year. The former secretary general of the Istiqlal party seems to have set the record for absenteeism.
According to the Akhbarona website, these repeated absences are disturbing, especially since Chabat continues to benefit from a monthly salary of 30,000 dirhams in addition to various benefits, without performing his duties.
If Chabat has disappeared from the radar, this is largely due to his departure for Turkey, accompanied by his family, where he intends to settle permanently in order to obtain nationality.
