Moroccan Hackers Breach Algerian Government Sites in Cyber Retaliation
Saturday 12 April 2025, by
A group of Moroccan hackers has hacked the website of the Algerian Ministry of Labor and the database of the General Mutual of Posts and Telecommunications, in retaliation for the cyberattack that targeted Morocco’s National Social Security Fund (CNSS).
"In less than 24 hours, we managed to hack into the internal systems of the General Mutual of Posts and Telecommunications (MGPTT), extracting more than 13 GB of confidential data. These include personal data and highly sensitive strategic documents," said Phantom Atlas, the group of Moroccan hackers, on Telegram.
The group announced that they had also "accessed internal documents of the Algerian Ministry of Labor, revealing deep structural flaws and chronic mismanagement within key state institutions." According to Telquel, these Moroccan hackers are believed to be close to Moorish, an anonymous community with nationalist and imperialist tendencies on social networks, particularly on X.
This hacking, carried out on the night of April 9-10, further exacerbates tensions between Moroccan and Algerian hackers, against the backdrop of the ongoing political and diplomatic crisis between the two countries. It comes following the release on Telegram of a database containing personal information of thousands of CNSS members.
A certain Jabaroot DZ, who presents himself as a citizen of Algerian nationality, claimed responsibility for this attack, carried out in reaction to the hacking of the X account of the Algerian press agency SPS. So far, no official Algerian source has reacted to this cyberattack.
