Moroccan Government Seeks Diaspora Input on Family Code Reform

The Delegate Minister in charge of Moroccans Residing Abroad presided, on Wednesday in Rabat, a debate on the family code and the difficulties that prevent its implementation abroad. Moroccans residing abroad and many partners participated in this debate.
Nezha El Ouafi initiated this debate, which is intended to be scientific in order to identify the obstacles that do not allow the implementation of the provisions of the Family Code, called Moudawana. It was animated in person and virtually by members of the Council of the Moroccan Community Established Abroad (CCME) and chaired by Driss El Yazami, the President of the Moroccan Bar Association, Omar Oudra, as well as members of the network of Moroccan lawyers established abroad, reports le360.
The theme is "Legal Protection of Moroccan Women Residing Abroad, in Light of the Family Code and International Conventions." From the various interventions, it appears that abroad, the laws of the countries of origin are left aside. Only positive law and international laws are favored.
This debate adds to the others that "have demonstrated the need to ensure an upgrade and a revision of the legal provisions in force in order to do justice to women," say the organizers. The participants agreed on the creation of a working group that will aim to establish recommendations, the same source specifies.
