Moroccan Government Denies Responsibility in Bab Darna Real Estate Scandal

After the recent statement by the Head of Government, Saâdeddine El Othmani, on the Bab Darna case where he declined the responsibility of his government, the Minister of Housing, in Parliament, persists and signs.
In a written response to a question from Ibtissam Azzaoui, a deputy of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), the Minister of Housing, Nezha Bouchareb, considered that it is a private matter between a company and individuals. According to the minister, the government is not concerned, either directly or indirectly.
According to the minister, the victims must assume full responsibility in this case "for having concluded illegal contracts". The provisions of the law relating to the Sale in the Future State of Completion (VEFA) were completely ignored by the plaintiffs when concluding the sales contracts, argued the member of the government.
According to the minister, neither the form of the signed contracts, nor their content, nor the parties who concluded them, comply with the provisions of law 107.12 amending and supplementing law 44.00 on VEFA, which has been in force since February 2016.
