Moroccan-German Couple Missing After Mountain Hike in Tinghir Province

Rachid H., an MRE, and his wife of German nationality, have been missing since last Friday, while they were hiking in the mountains of Msemrir, in the province of Tinghir. The search efforts to find them have not yet yielded any results.
Without news of the couple since Friday, their relatives reported their disappearance to the competent authorities. Immediately, the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie and the local authorities, as well as friends of the missing persons, began searching for them. The teams combed the region, traversing the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Due to the snowfall and heavy rains, helicopters were called in to fly over the area to check if the missing persons had not been victims of a road accident and if their vehicle had not fallen into a ravine. For the moment, the searches have yielded nothing.
"The search is actively continuing. We are doing everything possible to find the missing persons. We understand the concern of the families and friends and assure them that we will spare no effort to locate them," said a local authority in a statement to the press, adding that the governor of the province is closely following this case.
Many friends of the couple have reacted on social media following the announcement of their disappearance, expressing their compassion and proximity to the families and calling for intensified searches to find them. Furthermore, the embassies of France and Germany have assured the Moroccan authorities of their availability to accompany them in the search.
