Moroccan Gendarme Sentenced to 2 Years for Fatal Collision with Colleague During Checkpoint

The Court of Appeal of Agadir sentenced a gendarme to 2 years in prison, accompanied by a fine of 40,000 dirhams. The man is accused of having fatally mowed down his colleague, during a check at the entrance of the city.
After knocking down his colleague, the driver, a gendarme assigned to the Taghazout center, had forced the barrier by refusing to stop. An arrest warrant, issued by the Regional Command of the Royal Gendarmerie, made it possible to arrest him a few days later.
At the time of the tragedy, reports the site Kech24, the gendarme was accompanied by his girlfriend. The latter would have helped the investigators locate the driver. He was prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter and hit-and-run.
According to the preliminary investigation, the accident occurred due to a bad maneuver. The motorist would have lost control of his vehicle while trying to avoid a motorcycle.
