Moroccan-French Consortium Wins Bid for Major Solar Project in Tunisia

It is the Moroccan-French consortium "Navera/Engie" that will be responsible for the realization of the Gafsa photovoltaic power plant. The international call for tenders had been launched by the Tunisian Ministry of Industry and SMEs and the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG).
By winning this call for tenders, Navera/Engie must develop, design, finance, build, operate and maintain the Gafsa photovoltaic power plant over a period of 20 years from its commissioning. With this large-scale project, Tunisia hopes to reach a 30% share of renewable energy in its national electricity production by 2030.
The Gafsa plant aims to power more than 100,000 Tunisian households per year and at the same time, contribute to avoiding the emission of 150,000 tons of CO2 per year. Nareva and Engie are not new to collaboration. They had already had a common experience in Morocco with the realization of the Tarfaya wind farm, one of the largest in Africa. In a press release, Saïd Elhadi, CEO of Nareva, welcomed this solar project "won with Nareva in Tunisia". For his part, Yoven Moorooven, CEO of Engie Africa, said he was pleased with this collaboration, which further seals the long-term partnership with Nareva.
