Moroccan Forces Arrest 5 Suspects in Sahara Buffer Zone Shooting Incident

Five individuals suspected of having fired shots in Amgala, 37 kilometers as the crow flies from Smara, towards the end of last month, were finally apprehended by the Royal Armed Forces.
Tracked down, the well-executed ambush of an infantry unit, put an end to the long flight of the 5 accused who had hidden in an isolated area of the Moroccan Sahara.
The five individuals were brought before the services of the royal gendarmerie. They will be tried by the military court, in accordance with the provisions in force applicable to this type of military crime.
Located at the level of the buffer zone, the village of Amgala is an oasis south of the city of Smara, not far from the Mauritanian border. The site was the scene, in 1976, of two major battles between the Moroccan and Algerian armed forces.
