Moroccan Forces Accidentally Fire on Mauritanian Patrol Near Border, No Casualties Reported

The Royal Armed Forces mistakenly struck a military vehicle belonging to the Mauritanian forces on the border with the Sahara. No casualties are to be deplored.
The incident occurred north of the Mauritanian village of Inal, about 200 kilometers east of the Guerguerat crossing point, on Wednesday, December 23, reports the Mauritanian News Agency. According to the Mauritanian army, the Mauritanian troops had chased a group of drug traffickers when they inadvertently approached near a Moroccan defense station.
Sensing a threat, the Royal Armed Forces opened fire. The Mauritanian troops immediately retaliated, in accordance with the rules of engagement, according to a statement from the Mauritanian army. The confrontation ended after the two military groups recognized each other.
Mauritania says it has opened an investigation into the incident.
