Moroccan Flag on Amiens Town Hall Sparks Controversy After World Cup Victory

During the celebration of the victory against Spain and the historic qualification of the Atlas Lions in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, Moroccan supporters hoisted a Moroccan flag on the town hall of Amiens. This prompted a reaction from the municipal authorities.
Like several cities in France, Amiens celebrated the historic qualification of the Atlas Lions in the quarter-finals of the World Cup through fireworks, honking and singing. But some Moroccan supporters committed an act that did not please the municipal authorities. They hoisted the Moroccan flag on the facade of the Atrium. This act provoked reactions from French internet users, including elected officials from the Rassemblement national (RN - far-right), including Hélène Laporte, vice-president of the National Assembly. The latter referred to "scenes of urban guerrilla warfare".
The reaction of the City of Amiens did not wait either. In a press release, it says it understands "the joy of the many French people of Moroccan origin present" in the city "and shares it". But "the town hall of the northern district is a public building and cannot be decorated with the colors of the Moroccan flag," it hammered, ensuring that the flag was removed on Wednesday morning.
