Moroccan Filmmaker Accuses Police of Negligence After Traffic Stop Dispute

In a video posted on Facebook, Moroccan filmmaker Mahmoud Frites accused the Moroccan police of negligence for refusing to assist his wife.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, the video recording shows that the complainant, who was subjected to a police check at the entrance of the city of Kenitra, did not have the registration certificate of the rental car he was driving nor the authorization to circulate.
The statement adds that the rental contract was also expired, and that the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt. At the time of the report, the passenger would have simulated a crisis by throwing herself behind the car while the filmmaker made threats against the police officers.
The incident did not prevent the security agents from completing the procedure, while calling an ambulance that took his wife to the emergency room to receive the necessary care. According to the statement, the woman returned home the same evening.
In parallel, and on the orders of the King’s Prosecutor, the complainant was referred to the public prosecutor’s office, while the car was seized pending the regularization of its legal situation. The statement does not rule out recourse to justice in response to the filmmaker’s defamatory remarks.
